SIZE MATTERS

The Royal Ontario Museum goes Big on FashionThe Royal Ontario Museum goes Big on Fashion!

Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum‘s latest installation at the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume represents a different meaning to the exhibition than what people may assume. It is “not just about size” states fashion costume curator Dr. Alexandra Palmer. In fact, all objects and pieces in this installation are highlighted as having a BIGpersonal, social and cultural value from around the globe and across time. BIG looks at the meaning of textiles and fashion from countries such as China, Denmark, France, Ghana, Nigeria and USA, with another “big” addition to the exhibit, and a favourite of many visitors, being the dramatic scarlet coat-dress by John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture. This look was inspired by René Gruau’s fashion illustrations in the 1940s and 1950s and it was also a highlight in Dior’s Spring 2011 collection. BIG will continue until Fall 2013 and can be found on the 4th floor in the museum’s Michael Lee-Chin Crystal gallery.
